How are non-wovens produced – and what makes them so high-performing?

Unlike woven materials, non-wovens are not created by interlacing yarns but by directly bonding fibres – mechanically, thermally or chemically. Each method results in different properties tailored to the specific application.

Materials commonly used include polyester, polypropylene (synthetic fibres) and natural fibres. Mechanical processes use needles or water jets (hydroentanglement) to interlace fibres. Thermal processes melt thermoplastic fibres using heat. Chemical bonding uses adhesives or latex dispersions.
