Pulp

What Is Pulp?

Pulp is a plant-derived fiber raw material obtained chiefly from wood. Composed mainly of pure cellulose, it is the primary substance used to manufacture paper, board and non-wovens. Chemical or mechanical pulping processes separate the cellulose fibers from the wood matrix.

Properties and Use in Technical Materials

Pulp offers the following material advantages:

• Compatibility with synthetic fibers in composite materials

In technical applications pulp is often combined with synthetic fibers to create functional substrates with customized property profiles – for example in carrier materials, labels or non-woven fabrics.

The production and use of pulp have a direct environmental impact, making resource-efficient and sustainable pulping essential. Organizations such as FSC® promote environmentally responsible forest management and monitor compliance with globally recognized standards.
