Carrier materials for wood-based materials – reliable and stable

Carrier materials are a key component of modern wood-based material systems. They support the construction of furniture, flooring systems and interior automotive components by serving as stable base layers, functional interlayers or laminatable substrates. LAHNPAPER offers specialised papers and non-wovens as components for tailored solutions in the wood-based materials industry. By using phenolic, melamine and urea-based resin impregnations, new and unique properties can be developed for a wide range of products. We are your reliable and competent partner in developing innovative technologies for the market.

Applications of carrier materials for wood-based materials

LAHNPAPER carrier materials are used in various wood-based material systems where a reliable base layer or laminatable interlayer is required. They support stable layer structures, ensure a uniform surface and can be seamlessly integrated into industrial production processes.

Application areas:

  • Furniture industry – papers and non-wovens are used as layers in furniture, e.g. beneath decor papers, as overlay papers, interlayers or for stabilisation
  • Flooring applications – as carrier layers in multi-layer flooring systems for uniform surfaces
  • Automotive interiors – for trim parts, decorative elements and functional components with specific surface requirements

What makes carrier materials for wood-based materials special?

Carrier materials create a uniform base for decor layers, coatings and functional layers in wood-based materials. Thanks to their specific fibre structure and defined absorbency, they significantly influence resin uptake: the resin is absorbed evenly by the material, resulting in particularly robust, scratch-resistant and visually clear, homogeneous surfaces.

Why choose base papers from LAHNPAPER?

LAHNPAPER develops papers and non-wovens that are used as base materials in the wood-based materials industry. Through impregnation with phenolic, melamine and urea-based resins, new and unique properties are created for a wide range of products. As components within layered structures, they form the basis for decorative and technical surfaces – from furniture and flooring to automotive interiors.

LAHNPAPER speciality papers and non-wovens combine high mechanical strength – even under significant bending stress – with a bulky, absorbent structure. A wide range of cellulose and synthetic fibre ratios allows properties such as stiffness, flexibility and resin uptake to be precisely adjusted. Depending on requirements, basis weights from approximately 30 to 200 g/m² and roll widths of up to 263 cm are available. At the same time, the materials offer high thermal resistance and, depending on the type, pronounced flexibility or elongation – ideal for robust, precise and reliable wood-based material constructions.

FAQ

Base papers serve as carrier and functional layers within layered constructions. They provide a uniform foundation, improve flatness, support stable bonding and influence resin uptake, surface quality and the mechanical properties of the finished wood-based material.

Thanks to their defined fibre structure and absorbency, base papers ensure even resin absorption. This results in homogeneous, dense layers and enables robust, scratch-resistant surfaces as well as – in the case of transparent top layers – visually clear and consistent finishes.

Speciality papers and non-wovens are used, among other applications, in furniture surfaces, multi-layer flooring systems and automotive interiors – for example as base layers beneath decors, functional interlayers or laminatable substrates in trim parts and decorative elements.
